The research continues the line focused on risks, defined by the studies in EU-Kids Online, led by Sonia Livingstone. On the other hand, progress is made specifically in situations of vulnerability that occur both in the creation and in the consumption of audiovisual material by adolescents.
Among the risks to which minors are exposed, the viewing of inappropriate material stands out. The content disseminated on YouTube is of a very diverse nature and with very varied intentions, not always positive. According to the study by Livingstone et al. (2014), almost a third of adolescents state that they have viewed material that they did not like, the most frequent being exposure to violent or pornographic videos. In the work of Yarosh youtube to mp3 et al. (2016), which records and compares the themes that appear on two platforms such as YouTube and Vine, it is observed that a higher percentage of videos with sexual, violent or obscene content appear on the latter. Exposure to certain commercial offers broadcast on networks such as YouTube, Facebook or Twitter also poses a risk, since studies such as that of Barry et al. (2015) show that through these media minors can be exposed to content that promotes alcoholic beverages.
