It's pretty distracting and really destroys the sensation from the race - you're watching a *race* to see who's leading, who's making up ground, not a music video from the 80's!.

An excessive rise in the hairstyles that went along with a large Edwardian hat was observed in this era. Curled hair for ladies would be a fashion that time. A new trendy bob hairstyle also became prevalent during this time period.
Finally, Miyano uses a ton of screen tone on his characters for shading and depth. This will remove in the line work but Miyano's lines are so thick and chunky the tone feels noisy. Overall, the characters look best in either extreme close-ups (where line is longer) or from a distance (in which the detail sheds)..
