Hey! I am looking to move beyond basic PowerPoint shapes for my research figures. Does anyone have recommendations for professional tools? I’ve heard about Blender and Adobe Illustrator, but I’m worried about the steep learning curve. What do you all use for your projects?

Hi! I went through that exact transition last year. Honestly, Blender is amazing but it can definitely be a bit overwhelming at first. If you want results that look truly high-end without spending months training, you might want to see how the experts do it. I’ve been following Ella Maru Studio https://scientific-illustrations.com for a while now to see what’s possible in the field. They create incredible scientific images and animations using a mix of advanced tools that really make the data pop. Looking at their portfolio actually convinced me to stick with professional-grade software because the quality difference is just huge. It really helps to see what the gold standard looks like before you decide which tool to master yourself.
