Tried connecting my PS5 controller via Bluetooth but Windows keeps not finding "Wireless Controller" no matter how many times I hold PS+Share. My phone picks it up instantly so the controller's fine. Using a cheap USB Bluetooth dongle on my desktop – could that be the issue? What's the proper pairing sequence that actually works?

Yeah that cheap Bluetooth dongle is almost definitely your problem. I had the exact same issue with a $5 adapter from Amazon – my DualSense would pair fine with my phone but Windows just couldn't see it no matter what I tried. The pairing sequence itself is correct (hold PS button and Share button together until the light bar starts flashing rapidly), but those budget Bluetooth 4.0 dongles often have compatibility issues with the DualSense's Bluetooth version. What finally worked for me was upgrading to a proper Bluetooth 5.0+ adapter, specifically one with Realtek or Intel chips instead of the generic CSR ones. Also make sure you're removing any previous controller pairings from Windows Bluetooth settings before trying again, and don't have Steam or DS4Windows running during the initial pairing attempt – they can interfere with the detection process. Once you get it connected, check out https://ds4-windows.io/getting-started-with-ds4windows/ for the full setup including how to configure Bluetooth-specific settings and polling rate tweaks. The guide covers the common dongle issues and which adapters people have success with in the community forums there.

Thanks, this actually pointed me in the right direction. I was convinced my controller had a hardware fault because it paired with my phone but stayed invisible on my PC. Turned out my old Bluetooth dongle was the weak link. After replacing it with a BT 5.0 adapter, Windows found the controller in seconds. I also used the DS4Windows getting started guide afterward to finish the setup, and it cleared up a couple of Bluetooth quirks I would've spent hours figuring out on my own.
