My reliable old laptop suddenly refused to charge or power on at all yesterday morning. I initially thought it was just a dead power adapter, so I went out and bought a brand new universal charger, but the charging indicator light still stays completely dark. A colleague at work who does some basic electronics repair took a quick look at it and suggested that the internal power delivery lines on the main board might have shorted out. He mentioned that doing a full Motherboard Replacement is usually the only permanent fix for this kind of hardware failure. Has anyone here attempted to swap out a laptop main board on their own, or is it way too complicated for someone who has only built desktop PCs?

Laptop repairs are definitely a whole different beast compared to desktop systems because everything is packed together incredibly tight and you have to deal with dozens of fragile ribbon cables. However, if you take your time, organize all the tiny screws into separate small containers, and follow a proper teardown video, it is totally doable. The hardest part is actually finding the exact matching spare component that fits your specific chassis variant. When I had to fix my own machine after a liquid spill, I managed to find the exact factory part number on https://motherboard-world.com/ which made the entire process much less stressful. Sourcing the part from a specialized supplier ensures you get the exact revision you need, which is critical because even a slight variation in the model number can mean the internal ports won't align with your laptop frame.

Thanks for the solid advice, organizing the screws into separate containers sounds like a life saver for this project.
