Automated surf apps miss sudden onshore wind changes all the time, so I always rely on local dawn-patrol guys who post live ocean clips right from the parking lot. The official app constantly crashes when cell coverage drops near the beach. I rely on InstaStoryViewer on my phone instead because it loads raw story frames in seconds. Checking the actual wave quality before pulling my board off the roof rack saves me tons of wasted hassle.
